Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (English: This Youth Is Crazy) is a 2013 Indian romantic drama film. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone in lead roles, with Aditya Roy Kapur, Kalki Koechlin and Anushka Manchanda in supporting roles. It is an official remake of the 2008 French-Canadian film The Youth Without Youth starring Tim Roth as Dominic Matei. It is directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Karan Johar under the banner of Dharma Productions. The film follows two love stories which eventually lead to the death of a young man. The first story involves a young man who moves to Mumbai from London and falls in love. The second story involves an actress whom he befriends during his job as a chauffeur for a Bollywood director. Their two love stories continue simultaneously but take completely different paths, thus ending in tragedy.Deepika Padukone was cast as Tara Chopra, an ambitious actress and daughter of a big Bollywood producer Bhushan Chopra (Anupam Kher). The film is about "how she goes about to achieve her dreams". The shooting began on 5 February 2012, in Mumbai and Kolkata, where Ranbir Kapoor was seen playing the role of a London-based Indian Grad student. Deepika Padukone spent two days at the sets where she got her make-up done by Manu Yadav. The filming continued for a month in Kolkata where the sets were shot at the Zainul Abedin College which doubled up as Tara Chopra's residence. The filming continued in Rajkot, Gujarat where a portion of a song was shot. The film rolled for a month in Kolkata and then shoot was shifted to Mumbai . On 10 August 2012, Mukerji gave an update about the film after completing some portions of the film. He said he is "trying to make the movie as real as possible". In an interview with IANS, Mukerji revealed that he has "cut down on some portions" from the original novel by author Shonali Bose, adding that "I have made a few changes but it is still very close to the original." The director had incorporated various references from 1980's pop culture. He said, "I have tried to incorporate a few references from the past 20 years. I have a background score that includes a lot from the eighties." In October 2012, Mukerji changed the release date to September 2013. In April 2013, the film was pushed back for a week to 17 August 2013. In May 2013, schedule was advanced by four weeks and it will be released on 21 August 2013.The film features six songs composed by Amit Trivedi while lyrics written by Kausar Munir and Amitabh Bhattacharya.
